The weirdest thing is that the Police never showed up.

I bought one ugliest-bike-on-earth (not in the picture) a couple of weeks ago. Its a hidden bomb, waiting for me to get down and dirty. So far I have fixed one broken part to hind two new ones. Besides that Im blessed with 2-3 other projects on wheels.To be honest, my skills are barely enough to change a flat tire. Its going to be an interesting summer..

The Nothing Else Mattress and the wooden question mark were really on my street. Like, seriously.

A Good Night's Sleep

This was drawn to pass time during a weird illness I encountered some months ago. I couldn't leave my house for a week. The illness made me all dizzy and tired, so weak that I almost threw up after walking 200 meters. The cabin fever hit me after the third day and this was the result.
Drawing a rat was a pleasant enough experience, not to talk about drawing a running rat in a psychedelic (hairy) environment. To be honest, I should practice lettering until I sweat blood. And think about what I want to say before I write it.

How was it again, 100 000 hours stand between you and becoming the Master of the brush / whatever you want to master?

I was saving this piece of superb storytelling for the yet-to-be-finished zine. Its purpose was to work as a light intro for the travel-themed paper, entitled "A Small Guide How to Cheat & Bum Your Way Through Europe". Instead, as I doubt I will finish the zine any day soon, I will publish it now.

The material created for the Guide feels, as usual, already out of date after half a year. I'm afraid, very very afraid, that I might want/need to re-draw everything. Maybe a couple of times. The comic was drawn in the Summer 2010.

I'm sinking deeper into the depths of the closets. Today I found a dead butterfly from one. I wonder what would be the most appropriate way to deal with the corpse. Bury it in the snow in a small box? Ive never even been in a funeral! Maybe I should ask the silverfishes living in the bathroom to deal with this. They are more hardcore than me anyway.

#3 This is, as it reads, from 2005. It is some kind of surreal vision of a loose tooth in a bucket, etched to a copper plate and printed. Proper handicraft!

This week has been dedicated for cleaning up the closets. I dove deep into the piles of memories of times past and people I used to know and love (I still love you), the missing socks (that's where they all went!) and all the treasures long forgotten. Some of those were creations of mine, the oldest from 10 years ago. Its time these wonder see the shivering light of the day. On the internet.

It's been some time since the last update. It has been such a limbo of an autumn that the art or the artist in me hasn't been leaking out at all. The zine is still in the making. I'm starting to be convinced, that the only place where I get to work with this particular piece is the B-town (a new annoying nickname for the city, splendid!). I am however working on a shortie. Every once in a while one has to give birth to something, right? Even if it's accidentally indie.

For the waiting I created some dada, especially for you. I couldn't decide which I like the best so I'm a post them both.

In upper secondary school I always found comfort in the phrase "dada is crap, everything is crap".

I found photos from my first visit in Berlin. They were taken with a scratchy film pocket camera. Looks like I'm trying to feed the bear. Yes, Im pretty confident that the ghost arm is mine.

Then there is this one from 2008. We were stuck in a mighty stau somewhere in Germany. The driver managed to find a place where to stop before the stau really hit. The highway was empty so we walked in the middle of it and started taking pictures. You cant really tell from the photo, but it was kind of exciting to hang out in the middle of a German highway. In flipflops, mind it!

Berlin is hot and dry like an armpit of a camel. I have been working on my new fanzine, whatever time I could take from partying with my new best friend Sternburg. Life is hard, I know. I hope the zine will be finished and published later this summer. The texts are in English and the content deals with traveling (read: hitchhiking). Without money, but not without dinosaurs, that is.

I'm calling it "A small guide how to cheat & bum your way through Europe - From Helsinki to Berlin with less than 10€"

I have been concentrating so deeply on the above things, that my sketchbook looks quite dull. Nevertheless there is some holiday pictures that I want to share with you. Enjoy!

This one started as a sketch during an idle lecture and evolved to a weird but somewhat promising character. I've got a slight idea about the future adventures of the dogg here, but we'll see what really happens. Due to my laziness the quality of the photoshopping is not-perfect, but good-enough, which I obviously need to point out in case someone didn't notice.

I've been fairly busy with school and other mundane things, especially with Sikala-anthology. It is an animal rights comic anthology with 12 different artists commenting factory farming. The publisher is the Finnish animal rights group Oikeutta Eläimille. I'm entitled as "the editor" which sounds cool but is mainly a lot of work . All the content is translated in English, it is black&white and 62 pages long. Amazing enough, the cost is only 12 euros! All proceed from the sale of this book will be donated to animal rights causes.

The book is coming out in 09.04.2010, and can be bought (at least) from www.oikeuttaelaimille.net, Pitkämies shop, Runsaudensarvi and some other comics or vegan stores.

Oldies goldies for the start of the year 2010.

Done in the spring of 2006, this piece named "Helvetinkone" (translates as "infernal machine") was made with method called copper plate etching. I used two different plates, one for the lines (carbograph) and one for the bigger color areas on the background (aquatint)

Yay! The first Peijakas of the year!

Got some late night inspiration to do this beautiful yet psychedelic flyer for the club. Im pretty sure I started around 2300 and finished after 0100. So fast! Like a lightning.

Okapis are wonderful animals - half zebra, half something else. They are capable of picking their own ears with their magic tongue and are very rare to find.

Earlier this week animal rights group Oikeutta Eläimille released shocking footage from Finnish pig farms. Check the website http://www.sikatehtaat.fi for more information.

"In 2007, Oikeutta Eläimille organisation revealed the reality of Finnish animal industry by releasing shocking footage from 101 factory farms. The footage gained much media attention and the animals' conditons were condemned widely by the public. Two years later, nothing has changed.

In the autumn of 2009, activists visited 30 pig farms, some of which had been filmed earlier. The new footage shows that pigs are still kept in appalling conditions to produce meat. All piggeries had the same basic problems. Pigs were kept in close quarters and in dirty conditions with no possibilities for exercise or other natural behaviour. Individual care was not given to the animals. In addition, animal welfare laws were being broken blatantly by many farmers: there were numerous sick animals that had not been taken care of. Open wounds, abscesses and broken limbs were some of the typical injuries."

Last year she broke her both arms (plasters for three months, quite horrible isn't it?) and now, right when they've healed properly she broke her arm again! Dang. Luckily it was only one this time, but dang anyway. Dunno if our family is hexed or something, so many broken limbs at the same time. Oh well.

I'm getting into doing cards. Too bad I didn't have time to scan the birthday card I made for my friend Jenni. She had a wonderful party yesterday, and all I brought was a card with a kangaroo drooling over a cupcake. Eww. Hope it wasnt too much!

Hi there, my tiny friends!
Lately I've been up to no good, quite literally this time - I broke my foot in a horrid dumbsterdiving accident! In fact it is my talus that is fractured ("like really hardcore stuff" -Google), so I'll be wearing a nice, solid plaster for next 2-3 months. This inspired me to draw some panels of my fascinating life as a cripple. Anyhow now the only thing I have for you is this generic granma in the snow, thinking of how to tetris the world.

This one here is more or less a technical study, that's why it differs so much from my other comics. I wanted to practice ways of illustrating movement and time, and am pretty happy with the results. Especially Theresa's happy bouncing fills my heart with joy.

Howdy folks!
I came back from Germany today, so I'm uploading some stuff I managed to finish before leaving to my vacation (oh how I wish I'd still be in Berlin).

My suggestion for the logo of Ladyfest HKI. Yes, no success but it's a nice picture (not that logo-ish) anyway.

These two are VERY SWEET xmas-cards for my sisters Emma and Susanne.

I planned something like a series of new gods, but am doubting if I'll ever get to do the rest of them. It's based on Aztec Codices.

This beauty here is my first flash animation. It's 2:39 minutes long and tells a story of a crocodile. All the texts are in Finnish, so I'll write translations here :)

The crocodile and the light

I had a lot of difficulties in publishing this, so I hope you'll forgive me that it's only linked. There's still some problems, with the music at least, but I'm hopefully getting some help from my school at some point. Oh yeah, this was a school project :) It was meant to be done in groups but the little artist in me woke up and I ended up doing it all by myself. Oh, look closely to the hand. The crocodile is drawn on it.

Dreadlocktales nro. 01

Everybody who has dreadlocks knows how difficult life can be with them, f ex you're making a soup, guess what's the special ingredient (a rasta!).. or how about getting stuck to somebody's piercing jewelery or..
This one is probably the longest comic I have ever accomplished, oh joy! Naturally this means that next update will be an illustration, or something else that is not so troublesome :)

I'm leaving to Germany at 26th of December and will hopefully be back around 11th of January. That means there won't be any updates before that, but I promise to draw some shite during the journey.

I've been challenged! By nallem!

The challenge is to write down 5 strange things about me, and while she did it thinking about her relationship with comics, since I'm so new in this particular field I'll do it about art in general :)

1. When I was younger I used to think that painting something horrible is more difficult than painting something pretty, for example painting a beautiful flower → easy, painting your awful nightmare → difficult. However, my favorite artists are not those who paint nightmares, but those who paint weird and not-so-slick pieces. Like Marc Chagall.

2. I had a great ARTISTIC CRISIS in 2006-2007. I quit making art for about a year, and the first painting I did was a pretty scary picture of a person in a toyshop. I think it's about my panic attack anxiety disorder but I'm not really sure. OK, this is not strange, but what is strange is that I had always thought that I'm not very good at drawing. After the crisis I bought pencils and just started drawing things. I still think that I'm not very good at drawing, but I enjoy doing it, so people seem to like some of my stuff. Actually I think my characters are more popular than anything I've done before.. and that is craziness!

3.I think art is something that is supposed to change the way people think and/or see the world surrounding us . But! I also think that an artist can get that effect painting something not clearly symbolic, by painting just about anything, like a fridge. That too, if done correctly, can change somebody's point of view :)

4. I'm not a fan of superhero comics. I remember reading X-men at some point, but only because I had sexual fantasies about some of the characters and needed the material. I do love Gothic comics, which is both embarrassing and weird. You know I'm a NORMAL HEALTHY HAPPY grrl

5. I don't like violence in comics or animations. My animations/drawings are always brightly colored stories about something cute like a self-licking pudding (is that cute? I don't know, at least it's pink..). I hope that at some point I can say that my stuff is cute and edgy, but right now I feel I'm still working on the edgy part.

I don't know who to tag (check the part where I say I'm new..) but when I know I'll update this entry!

I'm not completely (or to be honest, at all) satisfied with the quality (drawings nor image processing), but I have a feeling that I'm slightly improving with Gimp. Plus I think that I should quit coloring by hand and start using that horrible yet fantastic software in that also. Just like everybody else! Except that I don't have Photoshop and everybody else has..
I didn't bother to write the text since it's so long (kind of :D) and my handwriting is even crappier than my comics. Yes the font is most boring of them all, suits me!

It's also me praising my own beautiful armpit hair that is growing thicker and longer every day. Maybe one day they'll reach the ground and then somebody can try to rescue me, just like good old Rapunzel, eh.

Today I tried to make somekinda logo for our group. I find the results pretty cute and funny but not suitable for a logo. Anyhow I'm posting it here just to fill some blanks.. HAHA yes that's right, because I can!

The group is called 'Hyökyaalto' which means Tsunami and the agenda is about climate change. We are going to have a happening at Esplanadinpuisto, HKI on 6th of December 17.oo. There's going to be food, propaganda, performances and probably some cool games for your pleasure <3 The date happens to be the Global Day of Action and the Independence Day of Finland at the same time, and it will be the big day for us since it's the day Hyökyaalto get's launched and public :) The writing in the picture means Tsunami and it's there to show a place for the real text.
